The central government has set a target of establishing 728 Eklavya Model Residential Schools to benefit nearly 3.5 lakh Scheduled Tribe students across India. So far, 721 schools have been approved, out of which 477 are already operational. This was revealed in a written response in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of Tribal Affairs, Durga Das Uikey. The scheme was launched in 2018-19 to provide quality education to tribal children in their own cultural environment.
